Allow businesses to have nicknames
I would like to be able to add a nickname to a business contact, and not just an individual. This allows for more flexible searching.
For example, if there was a business named Main Street Center for Dental and Orthodontics, a lot of people would just use the acronym MSCDO because it's easier. I want to be able to searcy by MSCDO, but I don't want it to appear on their mailings. A nickname field (like individual clients have) would be perfect for that purpose.
Redtail’s Product Owner has read the suggestion and there is some internal discussion needed in order to determine next steps.
This suggestion is remaining open and can continue to gather votes and comments!
Also, many business are known by a DBA or "Doing Business As", which is different from their legal name. For contacts which are businesses, we need to have fields which list both the legal name and also the more commonly known name that they are doing business under.
Sometimes a business may be better known by their product or service, or their name may be a trademark without spacing, so users on the system may type different things to find the contact record. If there were Also Known As fields, or multiple nickname fields, it would make records quicker to find, and would help eliminate duplicate entries.
We have run into issues with mail merges when you use the Family Name and or Nickname Field to create letters or envelopes. The issue arises when you try to send to a business as there isn't a family name or nickname field to pull the information from.

Why dont you just type the word "dental" in the search field and any name or business with that word in it will pop up. You dont have to type that whole name, just a part of it.
Brokerage firms refer to publicly owned businesses by ticker more often than not.
So that we can search by tickers too.
