This suggestion is either not possible or not planned at the current time. Technology changes all the time though!

Or perhaps in the Contact Overview include a section that shows the documents imaged to that contact. (Document Categories, Effective/Expiration Dates, etc.)

Yeah, this is a great idea. I am envisioning CRM being fully integrated with Imaging so that the imaged document would show up in the "Recent Notes" timeline list.
