There is another thread in the suggestions page called "Dynamic Workflow Due Dates" which currently has more votes than this thread. The idea is the same. I would advise anyone who up-voted this to also up-vote that thread!

Automations are nice, but they are not the same thing as setting a systematic workflow.

For example: automated workflows launched as a result of a meeting entered into your calendar is a reactive event. A proactive alternative is a task prompting someone to schedule with the client, which is initiated/created on the 1st of January, April, July, and October. The thing to remember about automations is: no matter what the trigger is, it's based on a manual data input. In this case, what prompted the meeting to be scheduled? The answer is either you remembered, the client initiated the meeting, or you use some other means outside of Redtail to remind yourself of what needs to be done. None of those are good options. Systematically prompting you or an admin to contact the client to schedule is proactive and would benefit all parties.

Tag groups could also be used to automate workflows, activities, etc. This would be helpful for marketing events and campaigns.

To the developers: this is the most powerful tool you can provide your client. Manual entry of workflows is not efficient for tasks which happen on a recurring basis. Per my quick research, similar suggestions to this have been made to you since 2012.

Guys, get your act together and figure out a way to systematically generate workflows on a schedule, just as you can with your activities.
