This week we got this 15 year long awaited update and.... it... doesn't work right.
The recent change to Redtail’s review functionality calculates the next client review date based on when a review activity is closed rather than when the actual review meeting occurs. In practice, firms often keep review activities open while follow-up tasks are completed after the meeting, which can delay the activity close date by days, weeks, sometimes months. As a result, the system records an artificially late “last review” date and pushes the next scheduled review further out than intended.
This creates inaccurate review schedules and can cause clients to fall outside their expected review cadence. The issue is compounded by the fact that the change appears to have been applied retroactively, shifting historical review dates and altering previously established review cycles.
Ideally, the system would allow firms to record an actual review meeting date that determines the review frequency independently from the administrative activity close date.
Notably, the review frequency that is manually entered is overwritten entirely by the new features. This means that if you have a client who has an early or late review, their review frequency is altered unless you manually update the review frequency again.
From my experience, clients don't expect to book with their advisor like a dentist office, often picking their review month with their advisor to capitalize on their work or kid's schedules, their other services or providers (ie. CPAs), and their comfort. When a client onboards they are choosing their review month with the advisor, as is fairly standard. This new tool feature adds user steps, and breaks the review frequency features that already existed.

If you go to the contact page in redtail and scroll down, there is a tab called "Keywords and Tags" that you can copy and paste from.
This is still a desired feature.
