Add “After the previous step” button to “Step Due” category in a workflow
The workflow needs an option to set a steps due date a certain amount of time after the previous step has been completed. This is an issue I see comments for back in 2020 and the issue is still not fixed. This is such a simple fix that would only require an added button to the "Step Due" category! Here are just a few of the complaints:
“It would be nice if I could sequence my workflows based on the PREVIOUS STEP as well as the Target Date. Example: My assistant submits paperwork on Monday and I would like to have him/her make a follow-up call 4 days from submission.” Mike posted April 29, 2020
“I think it would be useful to add the workflow start date as well as when the previous step was completed as reference points for when steps are due. This would add flexibility to anchor when a step is due to days from the start date of the workflow, or from when the previous step was completed. Some steps are better anchored to start date, while others are better anchored to target date.
Many times, steps take longer than anticipated, and the existing workflow structure is not accommodating to this. Additionally, only having "target date" as an anchor for when steps are due requires you to work backwards to determine the appropriate due dates for each step. Having multiple options are anchoring steps would be appreciated.” Matt Eltringham Posted February 05, 2020
“Instead of scheduling a task's due date relative to the workflow's due date, we would like to be able to schedule it relative to when the previous step was completed. For example, have step one due a day after the workflow is made, and step two due one week after step one was completed.
In addition, workflow tasks should remain on your "today" page from the day they are due until the day they are marked complete. That way if you are not in the office, or unable to do it on the day it is due, you won't forget about it.” Anonymous Posted April 16, 2020
“Instead of showing ALL the steps/tasks due on the calendar, a step/task should not show up on the calendar until the previous step/task is completed. Example: Step 1/Task 1 (marked completed) then the next Task 2 within the Step 1 is generated. Once all the tasks have been generated 1 at a time and completed then the Step 2 would generate. That way the calendar is not bombarded with so many tasks. This is especially helpful when so many steps/tasks are generated for a multitude of clients” Chantal posted June 17, 2020
-------“I agree. This is the main reason we really don't use workflows. Nothing goes precisely as planned by setting one target date at the beginning. If a workflow has 12 steps/tasks, and the first step is thrown off by one day, the entire workflow is kinda worthless moving forward.” Tom M commented August 17 2020
Redtail's comments on every one of these is "Redtail’s Product Owner has read the suggestion and there is some internal discussion needed in order to determine next steps. This suggestion is remaining open and can continue to gather votes and comments!"
This has been an unfixed issue for users for 3+ years now! Please make this a priority. The workflow feature is essentially useless until we have the ability to make one step due after another. Otherwise using the workflow is more hassle than it is helpful. Thank you!
