Tracking maiden names and name changes.
A long-time client gets married, you make the changes in Redtail, but you know them by their previous name. It would be helpful to have a way to pull them by their maiden names, without having to hyphenate it for the sake of being able to pull it. A way to link a maiden name, that is no longer a legal name, to the new married name.
Redtail’s Product Owner has read the suggestion and there is some internal discussion needed in order to determine next steps.
This suggestion is remaining open and can continue to gather votes and comments!

RT already has a field for Maiden Name. Can you make this a searchable field?

I would still like to see a feature like this in the system so I can search people by their previous name as well as their current

This would be useful so we don't just throw the maiden name in the nickname field or put (formerly maiden name) next to the last name, ruining the ability to export cleanly for mailings. The search already looks at way too many fields as it is, what is one more?

This is a problem we are facing! As a rule, we don't like to have any bogus/dummy clients because activities and notes get tagged to the wrong one and it can be hard to manage.
Another potential solution: Redtail, can you add Contact - Maiden Name - Equal to as an Advanced Search function? I could not find maiden name as a searchable field.

I would like to see a place in the contact details box for maiden name.

Good idea. A potential best practice is to change the real client account to the new name. Then set up a bogus client with the old name and one single note that points you to their new name. Nothing is lost, because the changed account has the correct name going forward and all their history.

That option is under "misc. Personal Information" on the contact dashboard. Not sure if you can search for it though, but at least the field is there for you to place the maiden name.

I think it would be very helpful if you had the option to enter a client's Maiden name and also be able to search by it because sometimes it can be confusing if they were a client before they were married and you are trying to search for them by their maiden name and nothing comes up anymore.
