RMD Value & Information section
In the account section, I'd love to have an area specifically for RMD info.
There is the general info section, which duplicates the issue date (listed in the account dates), the cash value and as of date (which duplicates the account assets balance), face value (which duplicates the coverage info), surrender value and as of date, loan balance, asset rebalance and rebalance frequency. Why can't an RMD info section be added, or the general section modified to include 12/31 year end value, RMD value, a check box for auto RMD, and that type of information? I'd love to be able to put their withdrawals (or projected withdrawals) for the year and have the system calculate if they will need to take more, or if their RMD is covered. Also, add a text box for notes, so we can detail if RMD is covered by another IRA accounts withdrawals. Please, make this information available to be added to reports!
I know it can be added in a UDF, but everyone has clients that have to take RMD's. This has got to be a feature that more people want and will use, than duplicating other values or dates already listed in the details section.
The suggestion may be planned, but there is no timeline on this feature being added.
This suggestion is remaining open and can continue to gather votes and comments!

On an older database I used to use I would put each year's RMD information in a different color ink so you could easily go back to prior years to find out RMD information if needed, and not get confused with the current year information. One year might be purple, another blue, etc.

Add the ability to track if a client has funded their IRA for the current and prior year as well as the amount. The same feature also for if a client has withdrawn money from an IRA for the year. I would like to see it be able to be linked to the accounts section for the client as well and searchable.

You should be able to run a report based simply on accounts checked as "Tax Qualified" without having to list a specific Type. This will help substantially with RMDs.

Redtail needs a search by "birthday" feature that allows to find clients "less than" or "more than". Should be pretty easy to do.

Under the accounts section. It would be great if we could setup Qualified funds to let us know when a client reaches 70 1/2 (and be able to pull report). It would also be great under each Qualified account to be able to list if RMD is setup auto or manual. It would also be great to list if RMD is setup annual, semi-annual, quarterly, or monthly. It would also be great to be able to pull an Accounts Report listing all Qualified Funds and if RMD is setup auto or manual and when RMD should complete if AUTO.

Paulette, yes it is an IRS requirement FOR THE CLIENTS..it is merely a courtesy that we remind our clients to take them. If you have your records clean and all marked as they should (YOU MUST MANUALLY MARK ACCOUNTS AS QUALIFIED AS THAT IS HOW THEY COME OVER FROM DTS OR WHEREVER), you only need one quicklist, as I do. People forget that Redtail is only as good as you make it. Almost everything that is IN RT is done manually. If you create a quicklist to search for clients over 69 with tax Q accounts, anyone that falls into that category in the future will also automatically added to that list. UDF's do not work for this. I don't have a problem with this because all of my accounts are coded correctly.

We have been begging Redtail to create a Standard Report for several years, but they still have not done this. I just listened to the recorded training for Advanced Searches, which specifically mentioned a RMD search. This search did not even include searching for retirement accounts. I just did the manual process which required two separate "quicklist" searches, then exporting for further work. This is an IRS requirement. Why does Redtail not understand that we all need such a report???

For the past two years we have set up a list via advanced search and then done a custom export to get a list of people who must take RMDs and then adjusted it in Excel. Perhaps Redtail could have that as a kind of standard search or list.

I agree with everyone but these comments are not exactly recent. Has any RMD feature been added yet, does anyone know? Or is it still pending? My office is considering making the switch over to Redtail but this is a major concern for us. Please advise! Thanks!

I would love to see an automatic feature added into Redtail for this, it is a common task within this sector and would be welcomed :)

We added a user defined field for RMD and set up and run a new search for over 69.5 each January to create a RMD client list for processing. The RMD is such a routine and standard process across the entire USA that Redtail should build this functionality into RT to help all the new users that have not created their own work around.

Please add a field for all investment type or annuity accounts that can flag a required minimum distribution. For easiest implementation another field should be added to select "Qualified", "Non-Qualified", "Roth", or "N/A" to any account type, in addition to the current "Account TQ Type" option. There should also be a field within the account data scope titled "Required Minimum Distributions" similar to the "General Information" or "Account Rider" sections. We should then have the ability to select "Auto RMD" or "Manual RMD" from a drop-down box. Last we need an editable field for the date that the Auto RMD is sent or the client's preferred distribution date for a manual RMD.
Having a way to manage and search Required Minimum Distribution information would allow us to be much more time efficient and satisfied with Redtail's service. Keeping track of these distributions is important to keep our clients out of trouble with the IRS.

Along with the RMD, please add the option for some sort of notification for the ages 59 1/2 and 65. Those are all extremely important ages for us in the financial world and I'm surprised Redtail doesn't have it as a feature already. Thanks!

I cant imagine a manual database such as Redtail showing automatic disbursements that your back office should be doing. Everything in Redtail is a manual process to set up, so you would have to set up those reminders yourself, just like I do. There is nothing "automatic" in CRM that isn't put there by you.

Hm, I'm sorry that doesn't work, Paulette! I just ran a fresh search (because my quick list was created in Classic Redtail) and came up with 177 records. When you right click on one of your IRA accounts and edit, do you have the field for "tax-qualified type" as a traditional IRA? Can you do a search for just those? If it still comes up zero, something is not right. Sorry I wasn't of any help, but it does work for me.

Suzanne,
First I want to say that my database is up-to-date with all of the information entered. I just tried to run the search you say works, in the exact order that you recommended, and I received zero (0) hits! I tried it on any possible TQ type, with the same result!!!!! I have been trying to accomplish this for months, with no success. I finally had Redtail techs create a custom SQL (quicklist) for me last year. I just looked at that report, and two clients correctly coded as "deceased client", not "active client" are still on the list and one client who is required to take her first distribution this year was not added. So, even when you have all of your data input, this is not as easy as you make it sound. I still do not understand why Redtail does not just create a standard report and inform users of the data field that need to be filled. I think it is obvious that there is a need for such a report and that I am not the only person having problems. -

I know this is frustrating, but you have to realize that a CRM is a manual process. YOU have to make sure all of your account are coded as qualified and you have to make sure birth dates are all in. It takes time to update your database, but once you have it done, maintaining it is a breeze. All you have to do is create a quicklist with the criteria "account tax qualified type = traditional (create quicklists for each tax Q type), AND age greater than 69 AND client status = client or open or active, however you call your open clients. Once you have this quicklist created, any new clients will automatically fall into that category. YOU MUST have your account coded properly or it wont work!!!!

I actually have tried to run the screen using 69. The problem is I haven't been able to get just those clients with tax-qualified accounts. So again I am requesting - why doesn't Redtail simply create a report that all of us can run. its pretty obvious that advisors need this kind of information.

The report should search for clients that WILL BE 70.5 in the calendar year--not just those who currently are. Otherwise it would be dependent on when the report was pulled. Ie, client turns 70.5 late in December. You might not catch in time to do anything about it.
This way on January 1 there would be an accurate list of those we need to be monitoring.
